Emma Martina Luigia Morano is the world’s oldest living person and the last one to have been born in the 19th century. She was born on November 29, 1899 in Italy. The super-centenarian married Giovanni Martinuzzi in 1926. But after the death of her six-month-old infant, they separated. She gives credit to her diet of raw eggs and single relationship status for her long life.
Yisrael Kristal
Yisrael Kristal is a Polish-born Israeli super-centenarian and the oldest living man in the world. He is a young 113 years and 145 days old. He experienced World War I as a child, but things got worse for him during World War II. He was confined by the Nazi regime to a Jewish ghetto, where all of his children died. He survived the Holocaust but lost his wife. Later on, he remarried a Holocaust survivor like himself.
Bessie Camm
Born on June 20, 1904, Bessie Camm is a British super-centenarian. She is the oldest living resident in the UK and currently resides in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. She worked as a nurse from 1926 to 1972. She married John shortly after the outbreak of World War II and has no children. According to her, "hard work, knowing lovely people and good food," is the secret to her long life.
Violet Brown
This Jamaican super-centenarian was born on March 10, 1900 and is the second oldest living person in the world. She is the last living former subject of Queen Victoria. She has one daughter with her husband Augustus Gaynor Brown.
Nabi Tajima
Born on August 4, 1900, Nabi Tajima is the oldest living person in Japan. Also, the third oldest living person in the world, she is currently residing in Kikai, previously known as Wan village. As of September 2015, she had over 140 descendants, including great-great-great grandchildren.
Marie-Josephine Gaudette
Also known as Sister Cecilia, she is an American-born Italian super-centenarian and also the oldest living American-born US citizen. She was born on March 25, 1902 in Manchester, New Hampshire. She chose to become a nun. She lived in Canada and France, where she taught art and music. Later, she settled in a convent in Rome, Italy, in 1958. During the 2008 US Presidential election, she garnered attention as one of the oldest voters.
Ana Vela-Rubio
Born on October 29, 1901 in Puente Genil, Ana Maria Vela-Rubio is the oldest living person in Spain. Her parents didn’t approve of her relationship with the man she loved. Therefore, in 1950, she moved to Barcelona with him. They stayed together and had three children but never got married.
