Q: Hello translator! Please introduce yourself to our Flitto users. A: How are you? This is lina_english, I’m a Korean-English/English-Korean translator. After returning home as a nurse in the United States, I worked as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA). Currently, I am working as a domestic and international clinical/pharmaceutical medical translator, an interpreter and translator volunteer, and an English teacher. Up till now, I have participated in proofreading and translations of more than 300 academic research papers in clinical/pharmaceutical papers (abstracts), manuals, contracts, protocols, homepages, resumes, and SCI(E)-level academic research papers. I have participated in a number of professional translations and also worked as a reviewer in various fields such as clinical/pharmaceutical, economics, sports, and government projects. I’m capable of translating various fields and styles ranging from difficult thesis to detailed presentations.

Q: What kind of translation are you particularly confident in? And can you tell me why? A: I can translate all fields from clinical/pharmaceutical to publication and religion, but I’m familiar with medical terms related to my major. In particular, I am well versed in technical translations, such as clinical/pharmaceutical related papers and manuals. Up until now, I have been involved in the translation and translation review of clinical/pharmaceutical, medicine/pharmaceutical/oriental medicine/veterinary medicine/nursing, medical devices, and other international academic research papers. Including all these, I’m still maintaining a 5.0/5.0 rating.

Q: Please let me know if there is anything you are particularly concerned about when translating. A: The most important thing I focus on is making translations that are good enough to be reliable. In order to produce a good translation that satisfies the requestor, we strive to adhere to the basic principles of proper communication, accurate understanding of terms, and selection of appropriate conditions.

Q: What is the appeal of translation, in your opinion? A: Translation suits my aptitude, and since I can have a wide variety of perspectives while translating a variety of fields, translation work is always fun. Among other experiences, I remember receiving feedback from the organizers saying they were satisfied with the results after translating civilian diplomatic relations, such as the order sheet for the national breakfast prayer meeting and the invitation and appreciation letter sent to the US Senators for the veterans’ event on June 25th. In addition, there are countless things that remain memorable, such as when I received a thank-you message saying that my work had helped a lot in a graduate interview for which I had translated a presentation required to go to graduate school. Above all, I am most pleased and rewarded when my language talents are used in big and small affairs, from individuals, companies and private diplomacy.

Q: Finally, if you have any stories you would like to share with those requesting translation from Flitto, please tell us. A: The most difficult thing as a translator seems to be when you encounter an unfamiliar field that is not related to your area of knowledge and when communication with the requester is not good. In reality, it is difficult for translators to know in detail other fields of expertise besides their own field, and in some cases, it is not possible to cope with one-on-one between two different languages. This happens in most cases. Even in the same field, the meaning and usage of terms may differ depending on the context and the flow of the particular subject, so the specific field must always be considered. I believe that the quality of the translation can be improved if the requestor simply presents the terms, the things to be careful about and any other specific requirement for that field. We will always strive for excellent results that both the requester and the translator may be satisfied with. Thank you.
